So my parents finally have broadband, a modern computer, digital camera and a photo printer. For the most part is great. I get to see photos of family quickly and conveniently. I can have video conference calls and make faces with my young niece is all really great at first.

The first problem is PC to Web integration is still week. Doing tasks like taking pictures from her camera and uploading them to the web the first time is entirely too complicated. She has to navigate to her spaces site, add an album, add a photo, install the photo control, click the yellow info bar to approve the add-in, add a photo, click the install button to install the add-in, navigate to her camera, select the photos, then finally upload now. Of course this is a few steps shorter every other time, only six, still its too many. Even still waiting for the upload is blocking and she has to wait when in really it could happen as a background transaction, more work for Windows.

The second problem is viewing web pages with animated ads (gifs or flash) renders the Remote Assistance sessions while I helper with unusable. I have to get her to scroll the animated content of the screen before either can use the interface effectively. There are many possible solutions I can think of, none yet implemented, and again more work for Windows.

Do not get me wrong I am still very pleased my parents joined the digital age, however seeing it from their eyes and that of the support professional role leaves me with a new perspective.
